Talon, Come Fly with Me by Gigi Sedlmayer
An inspirational, highly emotional and entertaining read for all ages
This book is a lovely adventure with an amazing heroine. Matica is a strong, brave girl, who battles with her handicap and how others view her. But this isn’t a story only about her gaining acceptance or overcoming her challenges. Rather, it’s a tale packed full of exciting moments and tons of emotions. Matica comes across naturally as does the village and world around her. It’s beautifully set and an easy landscape to dive into.
The way the author revealed each situation is fun to read and it made one anxious to see what’s next. Acceptance was eloquently woven into the story without being blatant. And the other thing I learned was that when certain things happen, you don’t always know why and just maybe something goodwill come of it.
In Talon, Come Fly with Me by Gigi Sedlmayer, we find an inspirational story about a little girl named Matica. She is the daughter of missionaries, and came from Australia to a small village, Pucara, in Peru. Matica adapts quickly to the lack of technology and the rural amenities. She likes living there, but she is unable to make friends with any of the local kids her age. Matica lives and suffers from a deficiency in growth hormones. So she is very small, like a two year old. The local Indians are baffled by her and maybe even mistrustful. They don’t understand what is wrong with her:
As time goes on, Matica comes across two condors, a male and a female, and she is able to win their trust and to even communicate with them. When the condors’ precious egg is stolen by poachers, Matica and her father are able to rescue it. They then care for the egg with the condors’ approval. When the egg hatches, Matica becomes a kind of mother to the huge baby condor she names Talon. Because of Matica’s success with the condors, the natives begin to respect, admire and befriend her. She becomes popular and well liked.
Talon, Come Fly with Me, is a wondrous, inspiring story about one little girl’s love for nature and how that becomes the reason for her life to suddenly change. It gives her disability a purpose rather than being a burden or something to be ashamed of.
It is a beautiful story filled with emotion and love. There are important lessons to be learned in this heartwarming story. Author, Gigi Sedlmayer, weaves a beautiful tale about perseverance and acceptance. It is well written in a simple way so that younger readers and children can enjoy it, as well as, adults. She intertwines a tapestry of sentiment with adventure that is sure to delight the reader’s soul. I found myself caught up in the excitement of Matica’s relationship with the condors.
Talon, Come Fly with Me, is written in a gentle, soft manner which brought a sense of peace to my spirit. It is an original story and definitely unusual with a little girl, aged nine, befriending, communicating and training these giant majestic birds.
The descriptions gave me a place to marvel in, as they are portrayed in a vivid and beautiful manner. A delight for the imaginary senses. I thought that everything about this book was exceptional and delightful.
It is extremely well written and creative. It’s hard to find books that are simple yet compelling and heartwarming with a premise that is so unique.
I will definitely be reading it to my grandchildren, as I am sure, not only will they love it, but they will learn a lot of very important and fun things from each turn of the page. It is full of excitement, adventure and enjoyment. It’s entertaining and relaxing at the same time.
