Hellfire and Handbaskets (A Time Traveler’s Journey Book 2) Kathryn Hills
Synopsis:
It’s hell in the ER, but Army veteran Dr. Rick Hauser wouldn’t work anywhere else. The hardened combat medic thinks he’s seen it all. Until she storms into his life.
Amelia Pennington is not just a pretty face. She’s a time-traveler. A medical student from 1895, forced to flee a madman. She’s been in trouble before, but this time everything she loves is at risk. Can a reluctant hero be the key she’s searching for?
What’s left of Hauser’s heart is still on the battlefield. Last thing he needs is to get tangled up with a mystery woman. But when he finds Amelia on the streets, he ignores the warning shots firing off in his head and takes her home. In less than twenty-four hours, she’s upended his self-protected world. Even his dog, Rocky, is in love.
Rick Hauser is an ER doctor who is suffering from PTSD. The ER is a crazy place to work but Rick loves it and wouldn’t trade it for anything. He was a combat medic in the army and he thinks he’s seen everything there is to see. That is until, beautiful blue eyed, Amelia Pennington walks in, clings onto him and begs for his help. Immediately the doctor finds himself being stirred inside by the close presence of this enchanting woman.
Little does he know that Amelia is a time traveler from the year 1895. She is fleeing an insane man and has found herself in a modern day hospital emergency room. She is a medical student herself, but inequality for women has made it difficult for her in 1895.
The very next morning Hauser finds Amelia sleeping on a doorstep. The last thing he needs to do is get involved with a woman right now, but Amelia is no ordinary woman and he gives in to temptation and takes her into his apartment.
Amelia’s family has had supernatural forces targeting them and now she is being chased by a mad man. So she uses rune stones to travel through time from the year 1895 to present day Boston, where equality for women has become a reality. Now Amelia is torn between Rick Hauser and his modern day time and her life back in 1895.
Hellfire and Handbaskets (A Time Travelers Journey Book 2) by Kathryn Hills is a great story filled with mystery, wit and fun. It is a romantic read that will leave readers desiring more.
Full of historical accounts and beauty, this story is a must read. Going back and forth in time, readers will journey along for the adventure and be intrigued by the time travel facet of the story.
Hellfire and Handbaskets is written and composed with skill and talent. I was engaged and captivated from the very first chapter, as it starts out with a bang. The romance builds slowly with a perfect balance of passion and apprehension. I was totally engulfed in the sweet love story and the time travel detail was written so well that I believe it’s one of the best time travel books I have ever read.
The characters are compelling and well developed. Their personalities really add to the storyline. And the dialog between the characters is witty, heartfelt and profound. I can’t talk about this fabulous story without mentioning the beautiful descriptions of the scenes and settings. Kathryn Hills writes and describes it well. Much research has gone into this story, everything from the history to the locations and the supernatural. This is the second book in the “A Time Travelers Journey” series and it can be read as a standalone. It is so good that I am going to pick up a copy of the first book in the series entitled “Haunting Highland House.”
Chick Lit Cafe highly recommends Hellfire and Handbaskets by Kathryn Hills to all time travel, romance and magic enthusiasts. It’s definitely the most compelling fulfilling and satisfying time travel books I have ever read.
