Review:
Original, quirky and entertaining!
In A Medium’s Birthday Surprise, Becky Tibbs has an unusually unique gift, she sees and interacts with dead people. She helps the deceased to pass over to the other side, and she loves doing it. Although her siblings don’t want any part of it, they have the same gift too. And as a result, they do everything in their power to avoid these ghostly, unwelcome guests.
Becky, being a medium, gets an unexpected surprise for her birthday. It’s Josh, her high school boyfriend who, without explanation, vanished while at Becky’s 16th birthday party. Josh thinks that Becky is the only individual that can help him discover the mystery behind his regarding his disappearance and help him realize that he is dead. Becky’s investigation reveals the truth and she then helps Josh transition to the other side, to a much glorious place. Becky, not only helps the deceased pass over to the other side, but she helps those who also see dead people cope with their, out of the ordinary, gift. Becky takes it all in stride and enjoys what she does, unlike her siblings!
A Medium’s Birthday Surprise by Chariss K Walker is a fun quirky tale that is unlike anything I have ever read. The premise for this story is original, creative and well thought-out. The storyline and plot is unique and flows nicely with easy to read prose and wording. This story really shows readers what is going on with a light uplifting tone and uncomplicated phrasing and expression that never skips a beat. Chariss K Walker has a clear concise voice that resonates with every word. I was completely drawn in from the very first chapter and couldn’t put this book down. Filled with mystery and intrigue, I found the subject line to be very interesting as I do believe that people can commune and interact with spirits. Therefore, even though this is a fiction tale, I could still relate and found it to be believable and interesting.
A very entertaining read, A Medium’s Birthday Surprise, is viable and warm with a colorful cast of characters ranging from easy going Becky, to the non-conforming siblings, to the frantic and unsettled dead folks. The characters are well developed and fleshed out. I thought that author, Chariss K Walker, did a splendid job of creating fun likable personalities that readers will love to get to know. The descriptions bring this supernatural story to life with vivid visual depictions, making for a very enjoyable spiritual read. Highly recommended by Chick Lit Cafe.
