Review:

Grace in Mombasa by Tracy Taynor is a beautiful overwhelming story that is vast, deep and profound. In it we have the lovely Grace Clifton, who has lived a life of overwhelming distress and loss. With no mother to help her grow up and teach her the ways of the world, Grace is left to figure it out on her own. In England, during the Second World War, Grace falls in love, but it soon turns to sadness and heartbreak. It’s Grace’s strong faith in God that sustains her, but when she loses everything that means anything to her, her faith in God begins to shatter, as she is feeling the devastation of loss. Over time she begins to heal but her faith in God is gone and she even vows to never again pray.

When an opportunity arises, Grace takes it, and heads to Mombasa where life takes unexpected turn. Even though life still has its hardships, Grace begins to regain her faith because God simply won’t let her go.

Tracy Traynor’s writing brings to life a sweeping story of one woman’s journey in her faith in God and her help with humanity. Readers are transported from the World Wars in England to the unforgettable city of Mombasa. It is a heavenly story filled with hope and inspiration. As Grace struggles with her own faith, readers will relate and be reminded that the Lord is the finisher of our faith and His plan for us will prevail. Grace is truly a special person and the author does a fabulous job of inviting readers to admire and love her.

When Grace’s life takes a separate path in Mombasa, after the war, readers are given a stark realization of a world that most of us know nothing about. The destitution there is utterly incomprehensible. Tracy Traynor has done an extraordinary job of depicting the deprivation and desperation it holds. Much extensive research has gone into this novel and it is well appreciated by this reader. An emotional story, I found myself crying on several occasions for Grace and the people she encountered.

With excellent character development, I felt completely connected to Grace and her, seemingly, unsolvable dilemma to regain her spiritual life and trust in God. It is a totally relatable story that readers will fully treasure. The dialogue between the characters is brilliant and simply unforgettable. The descriptions are beautiful with vivid depictions of the scenery, people and historical articles. Thought-provoking, inspiring and compelling, Grace in Mombasa by Tracy Traynor is a moving, historical, Christian novel that is a must read gem. Highly recommended by Chick Lit Café.
