The first book in the Destiny Falls Mystery & Magic Series, Falling into Magic by Elizabeth Pantley is a heart-warming, imaginative paranormal mystery set in a magical, modern town.
For as long as Hayden could remember, it had always been just her, her grandmother, and great-grandmother. In college, her best friend Luna came into her life. Surrounded by her family, friends and her cat, Sassy, Hayden’s life is calm until one day she falls into Destiny Falls, a magical place she never imagined existed.
Vivid descriptions of the town are provided and surprises await Hayden as she reconnects with the lost members of her family. She now has the fascinating ability to talk to Sassy who, true to her name, turns out to be feisty and elegant. As Hayden tries to take in the new world she has fallen into, she begins to uncover the history of her mysterious family, a process that provides excellent insight into each character and their lives. At every turn, the story becomes more suspenseful. The book begins with a hint that Hayden’s destiny is unusual following a baffling scene in another world that she witnesses through her mirror and the strange disappearance of her former cat. In every captivating chapter, new surprising details are revealed which range from a puzzling murder and an evil witch’s schemes – to the possibility of romance for Hayden. The well-developed characters are interesting, intriguing and compelling. Hayden’s family has secrets of its own which are revealed with time. She learns soon enough that not everyone is happy at her arrival and danger still lurks within the magical town. As the main character, Hayden is so humorous, convincing and relatable. Her new relationship with her brother is a lovely addition to this incredible story.
I loved reading Falling into Magic. Pantley’s story-telling is extraordinarily engaging. With an imaginative and expressive writing style, she has created a fascinating setting that had me mesmerized – while the entire story and characters held me captive. A mix between women’s fiction and paranormal mystery, Falling into Magic by Elizabeth Pantley contains a perfectly captivating story with many enthralling revelations and surprises and comes highly recommended by Chick Lit Café.
