Book review:

An amazing must read story about falling and rising back up again, K. B. Richards’s The End of May follows the life of a driven woman as she chases her dreams in New York City.

From a distance, Marcella “Marcy” Burke’s life seems like a dream: the perfect partner, the perfect job and the perfect best friend. When she first arrives in New York, Marcy is focused on finding her path and working her way to the top. She is fearless and her determination lands her the position she has wanted for a long time. But everything comes tumbling down soon after and Marcy must find a way to survive. Her friend Vicky, an enigmatic woman who works as an escort, introduces Marcy into the murky side of the city. Marcy begins to lose herself as she pushes every boundary and breaks every moral code she has held so far.

Told in the first person, the expressive writing style invites readers into Marcy’s intimate thoughts as she begins her life in New York and works to get to where she wants to be. The romantic thread woven into the story is realistic as it shows an imperfect Marcy who slowly learns what is most important to her in a partner. The magical side of New York is contrasted sharply to its darker side introducing a powerful twist in this remarkable story that marks the change in Marcy’s life. Though beaten down many times, Marcy continues to fight to find herself. In the process, she learns to forgive and move forward.

I found this book to be fascinating and engaging with a storyline that is captivating and believable. The author’s writing style is creative and unique. An emotive, inspiring story with a delightful romance strand, The End of May by K. B. Richards features a determined main character who loses herself before finding her path.
