Angus looks out excitedly for a pirate ship said to contain fabulous treasures. As he waits to sneak onto the ship, his more cautious twin brother, Jamie, tries to dissuade him. As events unfold, Jamie is unsure whether he is dreaming, or actually caught up in the pirates’ evil revenge scheme. In another charming story, a girl who had been rescued by fairies struggles to fit in with her new fairy friends. The individual tales are each very enjoyable and captivating in their own unique extraordinary ways. They are each clever, fun and exciting, and so different from the others, taking exhilarating shapes with fascinating, intriguing twists and satisfying conclusions.
In the stories, humans interact with magical beings who include genies, fairies, monsters, and supernatural humans. Though creepy and fearsome at times, the children are surprised by what they discover: a hideous sea monster could turn out to be a person the children know, and a cracking green bean could reveal a lovely surprise and the start of some wonderful adventures. The expressive lively poems contain similar, playful and fun themes. In the poem The Elf Man, a boy sets out to look for the elf in the woods that all his friends have seen. The poems are lyrical and they tell of whimsical stories with amusing enchanting characters. Vivid, delightful illustrations with unique colors are also included in the book and are really amazing to look at while also complementing each and every story and poem.
