Todd is a very different kind of bird than most. He can’t fly, and he has bear arms, tiger legs, and a tail, too. He wants to go to a nightclub and party with some other birds, but he is really afraid of how his differences will affect his interactions with the other animals. His perspective changes when he meets another bird that is a little different too, Peggy the penguin. Seeing Peggy helps Todd understand that differences can even be cool.
Lainey Dee has taken care to consider using an important message that everyone should know: that your differences are wonderful and they should be celebrated! It’s okay if you have different abilities; it’s okay if you have bear paws for hands; it’s okay if you have freckles from head to toe; it’s okay if your teeth stick out, or if you don’t have any; it’s okay if your parents are different than others, or if you don’t have any parents at all.
By getting out of his comfort zone, Todd learns that it’s really okay to be different and that differences should be celebrated. You will surely never forget this book’s endearing and heartfelt message. Let’s Celebrate Being Different by Lainey Dee is a wonderful children’s book and comes highly recommended by Chick Lit Café.
