Chick Lit Café Book Review
Love is What You Bake of It by Effie Kammenou offers a delightful romp through the life of Kally, a pastry chef, dreamer and single woman. Readers will be enthralled and entertained by this charming book. It offers a delicious look at passion, love and the sumptuous delights of pastries – what more could a reader of women’s fiction and romance want?!
First, we meet Kally – of all places in a cemetery. Lost and forlorn, she stands over the grave of a man she once loved who betrayed her. Interestingly, something occurs on that fateful day and Kally realizes that she is destined for greater things.
From the unlikely setting of a gravesite, we follow Kally as she pursues her dreams and builds the career she has always wanted. Eight years on, her passion for coffee and desserts is legendary, but underneath readers will recognize that there is something missing.
And, in walks Max. He’s everything Kally could dream of, but her life is way too busy to worry about another distraction. Kally’s life is full of people that are distracting enough, as it is. Everyone in her life has an opinion to share, whether Kally wants to hear it or not. Some can be a concern and worry for Kalli, like her tenacious grandmother or her boy-crazy friend.
Author Effie Kammenou’s command of the written word is amazing. She is a master at creating dialogues, which not only makes all the characters seem real, but helps draw the reader in and engage them fully. Her expressive writing style and striking descriptions of all things to do with Greece, had me imagining I was there in the midst of the beauty and on the scene watching on as the story progressed.
I love it when I get lost in a wonderful story like this.
This book is a standout in its genre and is bound to become a favorite with women’s fiction, romance and rom com fans. It will make you laugh, cheer for joy and become enthralled with Kally and her life. Chick Lit Café celebrates Effie Kammenou and recommends her wonderful novel Love is What You Bake of It (The Meraki Series Book 1) to all romantic comedy, women’s fiction, and new adult fans and readers.
