DELOS: The Moon’s Eye by Blake Miller is the second in a series of epic magikal fantasy novels, filled with mystery, intrigue and thrilling adventures. This second novel is incredible and holds up as a standalone story in and of itself.
This is not just another science fiction fantasy story, as each scene is filled with action and is vibrantly and vividly described creating visually rich and exhilarating depictions as the scenes and settings change throughout. There is strong characterization, with wit, humor and emotion, which fully depicts the relationships of the main characters Cynthia, Kaden, Alec, and those they meet along the highs and lows of their fascinating journey.
This novel is so well written in every aspect and the storytelling and plot is absolutly amazing. The pace builds steadily from the start and gathers momentum, creating excitement which hooks the reader in through the various brilliant settings and stirring circumstances. We are taken on a quest via otherworldly landscapes and strange worlds, where fairies, witches, monsters, the animal and spirit world, shape shifting forces of nature, the very elements: water, fire, air, and the earth, “magikas” – all combine to test the characters to the highest level and degree. The age-old forces of Light and Dark, Good and Evil are all there set to challenge us and them.
As a young adult /teen novel I was gladdened to see the characters’ personal integrity, their social conscience and bravery explored and emphasized. I found the blossoming romances to be an engaging, and wonderful addition particularly suited to this reader. It partly feels like an instalment in an “rite of passage” story cleverly set in the genre of fantasy. I hope there is more to follow in the Delos series, as it will be fascinating to follow these pleasing characters and their incredible journeys and quests!
Captivated by this story, I was eager to keep reading, exploring the world created by author Blake Miller who is a remarkable writer and clever storyteller. I would recommend this story to all fans of young adult fantasy and science fiction who particularly enjoy a fast pace, unique characters and to be transported on a thrilling journey.
