The Outcast (Shadows of History) by K.T. Luca
Five millennia ago, a great war waged between fairies, witches and non-magic humans. Every hundred years, the war repeats to the result of thousands of lives lost. Fairy history teaches that the Witches slaughter them to harvest their wings, and that is the course of the war.
An outcast of her own kind, Lily Rosales is a wingless Fairy living in the treetops of the Fae Woodlands. In order to gain information on the witches’ plans for the upcoming battle in the seemingly never-ending war, Lily is sent into the closest witch settlement despite the risk.
What will she discover? Will she survive?
With witches, fairies, and more mythical creatures you’ve probably never heard of, such as the beautifully winged draconians, epic teen and young adult fantasy author K.T. Luca weaves an utterly irresistible fantasy with her unique and enchanting novel, The Outcast (Shadows of History).
The Outcast is about Lily Rosales, a wingless fairy. A fairy with no wings is practically unheard of. Without wings, she can’t fly to normal locations like the other fairies do. She instead has to create great stalks and vines and climb them to reach where she needs to go. As if she wasn’t an outcast enough, her familiars happen to be two black cats, which is deemed “witch-like.” The witches are the fairies’ longtime enemies. When one of Lily‘s bullies catches her eavesdropping on an important conversation, Lily is selected to be a spy. She disguises herself as a witch and pretends to be one of them. She becomes a “student” and studies witchy ways at a Hogwarts-esque school, all the while learning vital information.
K.T. Luca has created a brilliant story. The book is well-written and has many unpredictable elements. What seemed like a simple enough spy mission turns into an adventure, resulting in friendship (and maybe a little more than friendship, if you know what I mean). The story completely casts a spell over the reader. The mysterious lore of the soul-eating “Macellavir” slowly pulls the reader in, knowing that the protagonists will surely come across the beast one way or another. And the reader constantly wonders what will happen to the little wingless fairy.
The Outcast is totally spellbinding, enchanting, and a pleasantly absorbing book, and readers will absolutely fall in love with this adventurous and magical novel. If you have even the tiniest inclination toward fantasy, then you should definitely read The Outcast (Shadows of History) by K.T. Luca, which comes highly recommended by Chick Lit Café.
