Don’t Mess with the Mistletoe: A Dickens Holiday Romance ( Book 18): Dorrit’s Diner by Peggy Jeager
It’s the holiday season in the tiny town of Dickens and pilot Michael Charles is home for his annual visit. His wanderlust has him itching to get back up in the skies as soon as possible, especially since he’s got a full schedule of rich and famous clients waiting to be transported to warm, exotic locales for the winter.
When his heavily pregnant sisters present him with a plan to give their workaholic mother some time off from managing the family diner, he balks. But one look at how tired the woman who took him into her home and heart is, and Michael agrees to run Dorrit’s Diner for a month so Amy Charles can get some well-deserved rest.
He’ll be back in the skies by the New Year.
The diner staff functions like a well-oiled machine, most of them long-term employees. The exception is new waitress Julia Maryland. The beautiful blonde has a past filled with heartache, a charming six-year-old daughter, and a smile Michael could spend the day getting lost in. But starting a relationship with her wouldn’t be wise because his visit is temporary and Julia seems like a permanent kind of girl.
When a family emergency requires him to rethink and reassess his life, Michael wonders if it’s time he becomes a permanent kind of man.
Chick Lit Book Café Review:
A beautifully moving tale about the importance of family and all the ways we show up for one another, Don’t Mess with the Mistletoe by Peggy Jeager is a wonderful stirring romance.
When Michael’s sisters get their minds set on something, there’s no stopping them. Therefore, even Michael knew there would be no argument when they pushed him to take a month off to give their mom a break from the diner she single-handedly runs. A single man, Michael’s lifestyle seemed the easiest to put on hold. And with Abra and Sasha, Michael’s sisters, both heavily pregnant, the family has a lot going on. When Michael meets the staff at his mom’s diner, memories of his childhood and all the things he used to love spring to mind. Then he meets Julia, a waitress and single mom, and Michael’s world turns upside down.
Peggy has crafted such a beautiful storyline with Don’t Mess with the Mistletoe. The dynamic between Amy, Michael, and his sisters is beautiful, complex, and inspiring. It made me want to call my own brother to tease him and reminisce. Peggy has a gift for crafting multi-faceted characters that feel real; she had me laughing out loud and then crying all in the space of a page. I loved the dynamics between two strong-minded sisters and a younger brother, and I loved Amy’s character, their mom, the most. She’s truly a giver of everything she has and the way the town appreciates and supports her right back was fun to read about.
Don’t Mess with the Mistletoe by Peggy Jaeger is a delightfully moving story that every reader will enjoy. It’s uplifting, full of wonderful family dynamics, and rich in love.
