Broken into three parts, Our Ships Story Vol. 1, is a telling of how the friendships formed, how they impacted one another and then how they evolved over time. Told in a captivating narrative, the dual perspectives of the characters as they evolve tells a heartwarming tale.
Written in a smooth prose, Our Ships Story Vol. 1, is a sweet story of friendship, connections, and the things that bind us. I loved the way Lianne Shaval developed each character throughout the storyline. The gradual progression of the connections between each of the six characters was crafted with precision and a care to detail. I fell in love with each character and the way they showed up for one another in both the good times and the hard times of growing into adulthood. As a writer, Lianne Shaval doesn’t shy away from the darker parts of long-term friendships, nor does she paint a story of only difficulties. I loved the balance she created with this plotline. Even though the story is long, it doesn’t drag or bog down with overly descriptive language or boring narrative. I really enjoyed Lianne’s writing style throughout the entirety of this book and the plot development she created.
Well-written with skill, a unique expressive voice and an experienced view of the world and relationships, Our Ships Story Vol. 1 by Lianne Shaval is a sweeping tale of friendship and the ties that bind us. Readers of young adult literary fiction, coming of age, relationships and friendships will really enjoy this book.
