Asher has returned. After a decade of relative peace, Sarai leads Zion West as Prime Servant. Asher commands its army against the growing threats of Zion East’s burgeoning military as Renatus’s power continues to grow. But when Renatus finds out Asher and Sarai’s son has the same genetic disorder as his wounded prince, he kidnaps him for his LifeCell in an effort to resurrect his own son. As Sarai and The Defiance are ousted in a coup orchestrated by her father, Asher does everything in his power to save their son.
Meanwhile, Cephas and Jude face their own challenges as they embark on a dangerous trek across the ocean in an attempt to rearm The Defiance. But a new menace looms. Protocol has grown even more sinister, as has Renatus’s latest ally: Legion’s brother, Apex.
The Fall delves into a darker narrative, providing deeper insight into the characters and the origins of The Wall. It is a fast-paced, clean YA dystopia that is ideal for fans of Red Rising and The Hunger Games.

Chick Lit Book Café Review:

Brian Penn has exemplified excellence yet again with the second book in his dystopian trilogy. But this time, The Fall picks up with an even more stellar plot and higher stakes.

Asher returns to life to find his new son waiting for him. The young fighter never knew he could love someone as much as he does young Silas. But happiness turns to terror as evil strokes his powerful father-in-law’s heart, who only sees dictatorship and his twisted “protocol” as the way forward. When tragedy strikes, Asher and Sarai grow distant, and they’re each pushed on their own unpleasant adventures. Asher must confront his father-in-law, Renatus to save what—or who—is most precious to him. Meanwhile, Sarai must fight for the people’s vote—a weight that seems all too great to bear.

Brian Penn writes with highly creative intelligence. The character depth is out of this world. Penn has precisely narrowed down how each character thinks and behaves, which makes them feel extremely real and fully believable. He puts meaning into each of his characters’ names by displaying it through their actions. For example, Renatus’s character is completely obsessed with reviving the dead and the literal meaning of his name means “born again.” Themes within the story reflect some Biblical elements, although there are not many strong parallels, making this a perfect novel for all types of readers who love the best in Dystopian and Science Fiction reads. All in all, The Fall lives up to its name. It covers the struggles of its characters and ends with an exciting cliffhanger that will have readers wondering how the characters will ever get through their trials.

Brian Penn’s new book is perhaps even better than the first. With top-level writing, fantastically well-developed characters, and an incredible plot, The Fall is an exceptionally worthy read. With brilliant storytelling and an intriguing, most clever writing style, The Fall by Brian Penn comes highly recommended by Chick Lit Book Café.
