The writing draws readers into a richly detailed radically evolved world populated by diverse characters whose representations of queerness and natural variations in human thinking feel normal, common and genuine.

Set in the year 2347, readers follow Ash Bennett, a young teenager who is exhausted galloping through space with her secretive parents. She yearns to leave the nomadic life behind, to find a permanent place to call home and to make real lifelong friends with purpose. However, fate has other ideas for Ash, when a routine stop on the Martian moon, Phobos turns into disaster. She is forced to join a motley crew of teens, while being hunted by a rogue federal agency and ‘Mind Agents’ which were once regarded as a myth.  Ash and her new companions – telepathic twins, a coding genius, a space pirate prince and a mystifying blue-alien boy fight for survival as they uncover secrets. The young misfits discover a prophecy that casts new light on Ash’s growing powers, twisting her fate into a daunting new reality.

The novel shines brightest in its character dynamics, with richly drawn personalities that play off one another beautifully. The relationships feel authentic and relatable, and each character’s arc feels genuinely earned.
