The Shadow Girl by Misty Mount
The Shadow Girl by Misty Mount is a beautiful, sensitive and emotional story that takes readers into the life of one girl’s journey into another realm due to her feelings of helplessness, her terrible shyness and inability to be noticed and have a voice of her own. It’s an awe-inspiring poignant story, which reminds us of the emotions connected with the thoughts of being different, going unnoticed, forgotten, lost and lonely.
Thirteen-year-old Zylia is a smart, sensitive and valuable young girl, although she doesn’t know it. She is introverted, quiet, extremely shy and goes unnoticed by her large chaotic , family, kids at school and just about everyone. She feels like she is disappearing, unseen and invisible to everyone. She does have a close sister, Ivy who understands Zylia and a best friend, Terra that sees, hears and cares for Zylia. She then discovers she had a great-aunt who mysteriously disappeared around Zylia’s young age. Zylia begins to figure out the mystery behind her great-aunt, Angelica’s disappearance and soon finds that she is disappearing too. Zylia discovers that she’s able to literally disappear and go in and out of this world. But, now she is in real danger of getting stuck in the invisible realm, and must find a way out.
The Shadow Girl by Misty Mount is an engaging page-turner which I could not put down. It’s one of the best novels I have read in a long time – and I read a lot! I fully connected with Zylia and the other well developed, authentic and relatable characters. I completely connected with Zylia and could feel her painful feelings of low self-esteem. Through author Misty Mount’s expressive writing and descriptions, I felt like I was on the scene, watching on as the entire story unfolded. From helplessness, shyness and the feeling turned reality of being invisible, Zylia journeys along and finds the quality and importance of self-discovery, awareness and self-worth, not only for herself, but for those she helps along the way.
The Shadow Girl by Misty Mount brings a wondrous, delightful and inspiring conclusion to an impressive well-written story that weaves sub-plots, characters and scenarios together seamlessly. The storyline and plot is extremely thought-provoking, and sometimes humorous, while the conclusion brings a sense of satisfaction, enjoyment and happiness.
A must read novel in which Chick Lit Café highly recommends to all coming of age, teens, young/older adults and mysterious fantasy lovers. You don’t want to miss out on The Shadow Girl by Misty Mount – it is exceptional!
