Ghost of a Chance (Redclaw Security) (Volume 2) by McKenna Dean

Synopsis:

At sixteen, Sarah Atwell walked away from her love of horses and a promising career as a competitive rider after discovering she’d inherited the family curse. Years later, her grandmother stunned everyone by leaving Sarah her horse farm—worth millions—but with conditions Sarah might not be able to meet. A former Redclaw agent, Casey Barnes retired when a security assignment went bad, killing his partner and leaving him as a partial amputee. His inner wolf is in hiding. He’s been living quietly as a horse trainer, but June Atwell’s death now pits him against her granddaughter for rights to the stable. With both of them snowed in at the farm, a series of increasingly serious accidents draws Sarah and Casey closer together, but they each harbor secrets that might tear them apart.

Review:

Ghost of a Chance by McKenna Dean is a delightful, imaginative paranormal romance written with passion, heart and intrigue. It was a finalist in the Bookseller’s Best Awards announced at RWA. It is book two in the Redclaw Security series, and can easily be read as a stand-alone. Readers are in for an amazing, and memorable, read with this unique story.

Sarah Atwell left behind her passion for horses and hopeful career as a competitive rider at the young age of sixteen – all due to a family curse. Some years later her grandmother passes, and Sarah returns back home when her grandmother leaves her the horse farm, however, there are conditions in her will. In comes, Casey Barnes, a hired hand at the farm and a retired Redclaw agent. Now, they are both fighting for the rights to the farm. Sarah is now stuck at the ranch with Casey, but despite the tension between them, their chemistry is hard to deny. Circumstances arise which put them both in danger, and now Sarah and Casey must come together and depend on one another to survive.

McKenna Dean’s refreshing writing style drew me in and I quickly connected with Sarah and Casey. They are multi layered characters with relatable personalities. Sarah is quirky and fun, but lacks self-confidence. Casey is strong and endearing, however he is disabled – yes vulnerable at times – but he refuses to let his limitations affect his life. The dialog, romance, heated chemistry and tension between the characters is written so well and believable that I could not put this book down – I was captured from start to finish.  A paranormal shifter romance written beautifully, filled with drama, danger and conflict, Ghost of a Chance by McKenna Dean is unique and different in a surprising welcoming way. The pace is steady while the compelling storyline is one which kept me turning the pages fast. The romance, thought provoking mystery and secrets, and then amazing unforeseeable revelations – all astounded me and caused me to want more from this remarkable author.

Romance, suspense and intrigue await for the readers of Ghost of a Chance by McKenna Dean.
