What I love about travel-memoirs is the experience of ‘seeing’ a place I will probably never visit. A Story of Karma does exactly that. Mike’s candid description of his visit to Nepal is told not only in detail, but with honest and moving emotions that he and his wife, Chantal, go through. This journey starts with the aim of climbing a pyramid peak, and two years of preparation are poured into getting them physically fit for the strenuous adventure. However, it is not long into their quest before both Mike and Chantal start questioning why they are really there. The people, who dwell in the lost valley of Phu, emanate peace and altruistic love, while exemplifying endurance and tenacity. Living a life of such simplicity as to make us ponder the extravagance in which we live. Thought-provoking and very, very moving, this odyssey into a forgotten world will touch your spirit.
