The Tea Drinker’s Guide to Adventure by Andrée Jannette is a thoroughly enjoyable later-in-life romance, and a peek into how friendship can carry you through the ups and downs of life. This is a really beautiful tale.
Three sixty-something-year-old friends are going on an adventure, in an RV no less! Six months ago, four ladies met in a reading group and instantly hit it off. When one of them finds out she is dying of cancer she asks the others to take her ashes to her favorite place – Georgia O’Keefe’s Ghost Ranch. Doing something none of them has ever done before they hire an RV and set off. What unfolds as they travel is a growing dynamic friendship. With their own personal woes and sadness, (including death and illness) each of them helps to support the others, often over a good cup of tea, an understanding ear, and a witty comment sprinkled here and there. I love the way the author has adeptly blended the sad with the uplifting, resulting in a realistic take on life. What the women didn’t know when they met in the book club was that the strangers were about to become family. Linda nails it when she states that as you get older the days and years fly by and she doesn’t want to waste any more time. What we learn from this inspiring read is that we are never too old to make new friends and go on adventures! Cathy, Betsy, and Linda – I want to come with you next time!
Andrée Jannette has captured the essence of life and friendship perfectly, in this easy-to-read, light-hearted escapade. Her writing style brought the people and places to life and I could easily envision them. Sweetly romantic, uplifting, and a real page-turner, The Tea Drinker’s Guide to Adventure by Andrée Jannette comes very highly recommended by Chick Lit Café.
