Bobby’s story is skillfully crafted and while the story is fictional, it explores familiar topics that are invaluable and pertinent to today’s real-life and all too common and unfortunate situations stemming from various life circumstances and struggles, which in turn can cause young people to make bad choices like mixing with the wrong crowd, and then suffer the consequences that follow. Which is one reason why I believe this novel is perfect for young adults yet will be enjoyed by readers of all ages. By serving his community and standing up for victims of bullying, Bobby demonstrates love and courage. God’s hand on his life even as he faces crushing adversity is seen as his story unfolds. Forgiveness and hope and are other dominant themes in the story that are brilliantly examined.

Other characters such as Corin, who Bobby stands up for against a group of bullies and later falls in love with, are fantastic and make the story hard to put down. Corin is a remarkable character whose relentless love and refusal to give up on Bobby shines through each stage of her life. Her resilience and Bobby’s newly found faith inspire others to begin their spiritual walk. The events leading up to the story’s conclusion are suspenseful. The ending is powerful, impactful, and highly rewarding.

Led by awe-inspiring characters who portray great faith and strength, When Promise Falls by Stone Carter is a hopeful Christian contemporary story about triumph over trials and the faithful redemptive work of God. Readers will love its uplifting themes and wonderful message about love and divine purpose.
