A beautiful fable that captures all of the important values of a life well lived, Mountain Garden: An Inspirational Book by Will Ottley is a must-read illustrated children’s fantasy book and will be enjoyed by readers of all ages.

When Buckan, a young stag, is sent in search of the Great King in order to help protect his entire herd from wolves, he has to overcome both internal and external obstacles.  Buckan, exhausted and overwhelmed, is sent to the depths of himself time and time again in order to protect those he loves.  As he encounters each obstacle—often in the form of other animals—he has to reach deeply inside himself and connect to love and faith in order to overcome the fear.  When Buckan arrives back to his herd, he’s so outwardly changed his dad almost doesn’t recognize him.  It’s there, with his whole herd fighting for their lives, that Buckan must put everything he’s learned into practice.

How do we overcome darkness?  How about the paralyzing fear that can so easily overwhelm?  And even more so, how do we teach this to children?  While this book spans all aged readers, I loved the key values that Will Ottley highlighted.  His beautiful, stunning illustrations added such depth to the book and aided his lyrical descriptions of each vibrant setting.  I loved the animals he chose to instruct Buckan and the lessons they each have to share and teach.  While this book is written like many fables, it presents a completely different take with values that apply to everyone no matter their age, race, or gender.

In a world filled with such uncertainty, we only have faith, hope and love to guide us at times.  This book provides a beautiful reminder that those around us have lessons they can each share as well.  Mountain Garden: An Inspirational Book by Will Ottley is a book that every reader will enjoy and that families will joyfully be reading together for many years to come.  Chick Lit Book Café recommends Mountain Garden: An Inspirational Book to all children, families, teachers and others.
