Utcan’s Talisman: A Dystopian Science Fiction Novel (The Tribal Wars Book 5) by Stella Atrium
Bybiis el Putuki and her friend Opin the healer must navigate the demands of the khalif in Utica who would turn Opin’s gift to serve him. Jesse Hartley and Hershel Henry find each other, but each is very changed from recent events. Can they reawaken the currents of feeling between them?
When Bybiis is able to force a release from the khalif’s control, she and Opin land at a small fishing village from where Mrs. Shaw is exploring the ruins of a lost city. Jesse Hartley joins them, but the conflicts that grew in Utica get more intense. Jesse is distracted when Hershel Henry invites her to rejoin her father the Consortium General at the rainbow bridge construction site.
Stella Atrium has done it again. She has excelled in her storytelling and writing abilities with book five in The Tribal War series. Utcan’s Talisman: A Dystopian Science Fiction Novel is staggering and magnificent and her best book yet.
Bybiis el Putuki and her friend Opin the healer must work together to ensure that Opin’s gifts for healing aren’t turned against him. This is harder than it seems with all the pressures of the khalif in Utica and the magical influences surrounding both characters. As Bybiis gains control back for Opin, they can travel to be closer to Mrs. Shaw, a woman searching for a lost city. The romance between Jesse and Hershel is once again at stake as both characters struggle to reunite and to rekindle the feelings they once had. Will their romance reignite? Will all the events and struggles prove to be too much for their relationship, or will it ultimately bring them closer together than ever?
Once again, Stella’s gifts for world building are on full display in Utcan’s Talisman. While every aspect of Utcan’s Talisman is imagined, Stella Atrium’s writing carries the readers through a seemingly realistic complex world rife with visual imagery and complex plots. Each character pops off the page and becomes part of the reader’s world. Simultaneously, the love interests between Jesse and Hershel keep the reader’s interests sparked with the perfect amount of tension as these characters struggle to overcome every challenge in their paths. Stella’s writing truly shines in book five of this series where she has not only woven several different styles of writing together, but also where she has effortlessly continued to evolve the plotlines from the other books in this series. She has a remarkable, enthralling talent for weaving elements of science fiction, futuristic ideas, and romance together into one book. Readers won’t be able to put this book down!
Readers who enjoy dystopian science fiction will love this story and the author’s stunning writing style. Reading Stella Atrium’s writing is like escaping to an amazing world so well expressed and described that my mind, senses and emotions felt like they were refreshed and filled with light, as well as the energetic feelings of apprehension and anticipation of what would happen next, and how the story would conclude. This book is as good as it gets. After reading a couple of the other books in this series, I can say with certainty that while each book builds on the next, readers will also be able to enjoy each book alone. Stella Atrium – Novelist
“I was a great reader of science fiction as a young person, but I began to wonder why the protagonist in a sci-fi or fantasy story was always a man, even when the writer was female. Where were the stories that presented a woman as the problem solver?
A real heroine cannot call on armies to follow her, or pay assassins for special work. She may have children already, so adventure is out of the question, and her family must be secure before she can enter the public square where she has no voice.
So how does a story shape if the young hero must solve problems that girls experience in ways that females address problems? I could find no books that started with this premise, so I had to write some. And that was my first reason to write.
