Platitude is a sleepy little town nestled in the mountains right in the middle of nowhere. Lightning bugs tease the children on long summer nights, the sweet scent of lavender fills the spring air, and demons swarm the town, blocking out the sun. Their goal is to ensure an entire generation is lost to the lies of darkness.

Aegeus, a warrior of the King, has been assigned to lead a team of angels to Platitude. But this mission is unlike any mission they have ever undertaken. Each of the twelve humans carries burdens deep within their souls, and one of them is rumored to be a prophet.

To help the twelve, discover who they truly are, Aegeus must embark on his own journey of self-discovery. Soon, it becomes clear that the humans are not the only ones being hunted and destroyed. The fate of Aegeus himself may lie in the hands of the very human he was sent to protect.

Review:

Wow! Dr, Ande Edwards hits it out of the park with her first book The Prophet. Heavenly divine warrior angels have been sent to earth to a small college town to help fight off the dark forces of evil – demons. The angels have been put in charge of twelve Christians that are to fight against the demons. Although the twelve Christians don’t actually know their assignment yet. They go about their daily routines dealing with all kinds of issues. To find strength to carry on they look to each other, have faith and engage in fervent prayer. The town is swarming with demons who know of a prophet and it is their job to destroy the prophet. The angels have been sent by God to help the twelve students battle the demons. The story switches back and forth from the human realm to the angelic realm, making for a very captivating and interesting read.

I absolutely loved The Prophet Book One by Dr. Ande Edwards. It reminded me of my favorite book, “This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti.” It’s definitely just as good, if not better. The supernatural aspect captivated me. The idea that we are dealing with demons and evil forces is very realistic to me. Spiritual warfare is a real thing and Dr. Ande Edwards has composed a spectacular story that portrays just that. In the story we have the demons causing all kinds of trouble and arguments. They are trying to divide the Christians in the small college town. It deals with subjects like; the role of women in ministry, the cause of depression and many other pertinent subjects. But their aim is to confuse the students and break them down.

The characters are all well developed and fleshed out. The descriptions of the angels and the settings is painted beautifully throughout the book. I was fascinated by the descriptive writing and the vivid storytelling. I was drawn in by the discussions and experiences that were going on. I felt as if I was there looking on as the story progressed. It gave me new insight into spiritual warfare and the importance of prayer.

The Prophet is a fabulous novel written with an original voice and unique style. It is engaging and compelling. Definitely thought provoking. I’m still thinking about it and pondering many issues regarding the story. I couldn’t put it down and turned the pages quickly to find out what would happen next.

Dr. Ande Edwards is an excellent prolific writer.  Chick Lit Cafe highly recommends The Prophet to all avid readers and those that love the supernatural genre.
