Although Ruby loved her husband George deeply, they were opposites when it came to the style of life they each desired to live. Ruby had always dreamed of an adventurous life traveling around and enjoying new experiences. While her husband, was simply a homebody. So she gave up on her own zest for life, for the love of her wonderful husband, George. George loved Ruby with all his heart, and took care of her every need. When he became sick and knew he would die, he didn’t tell Ruby. Ruby was devastated when George passed away. However, George did remember the life she had always longed for and had set her up by buying, and leaving, her a cute teardrop camper, so she could embark upon a new adventurous life once he was gone.
This is the fabulous start of what proves to be an exciting journey filled with romance, emotion, meeting new people, danger and adventure for Ruby, and her new found dog, whose name tag is labeled, George. A coincidence? Or is her husband protecting and guiding her along the way through this dog? George, the dog, seems to have the ability to perceive and feel things. He had me pondering some of the unexplained things in this unpredictable life we all live. When Ruby meets Joe, a possible love interest, it takes a while for George the dog to warm up to him. But, eventually, Joe wins the heart of both George and Ruby.
In Teardrops and Flip Flops, Lark Griffing has done an excellent job of creating a variety of well developed, and thoughtful, characters which evoke various emotions. Some will have you laughing-out-loud, some will have you crying, while others are just perturbing and there are a few that are plain creepy. But, all are vital and perfect for this engaging and entertaining story.
One of my favorite aspects of Lark Griffing’s writing is her keen ability to write with detailed, vivid and lifelike description of the locations, settings and intricacies of the characters personalities and actions. I was truly impressed with the smart, funny and sometimes poignant dialogue between the characters. Teardrops and Flips Flops is an overall fantastic book. I loved the romance between Ruby and Joe, and can’t wait to see where the next book takes them in their travels and their relationship.
Teardrops and Flip Flops by Lark Griffing comes highly recommended by Chick Lit Café. It is a perfect romantic comedy for a summer read and will take the reader from the forest to the beach while experiencing a journey in love, romance, life and adventure.
