What would you do if you were the last person on Earth?

The outbreak of the S1 Virus in China is breaking news all over the globe – it is killing apes by the hundreds.

Erika, who has a pretty good life in Johannesburg, South Africa, is little concerned with wildlife disasters so far away.

But when Erika falls ill and is bedridden for a couple of days, the world is not as she left it.

An empty city greets her the day she sets foot outside her door. Abandoned cars, a creepy silence, and hollow-eyed corpses is all she finds.

Alone, frightened, and heartbroken, she must now find a way to survive this apocalyptic world she has woken up to. Does she have the will, the strength, and the ingenuity to survive?

Against all odds she has one thing going for her – she’s resilient.

Book review for Resilient

Resilient by Toni Cox is an incredible dystopian urban fantasy will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. It’s a roller coaster ride of suspense and thrills. This cleverly written story will leave you wanting more because you’ll love every part of this amazing book from start to finish.

Our protagonist, and hero, is Erika. She is a smart, career woman who has a normal, happy life until one day she finds herself feeling sick as we have all done. When she recovers, she finds that during her confinement humanity had been hit by a terrible disease that killed almost every other person on the planet. What she endures from that time onwards is truly awful and how she copes is truly inspiring.

Being set in modern day South Africa gives this story an interesting twist. I was left thinking how would I cope if I was in the same situation? If this happened in my part of the world what would be the same? What would be different? Also, I like the fact that author, Toni Cox used actual store names and brands to make her story all the more believable.

I, for one, was hooked from the start. My heart raced at the turn of every page, especially when Erika befriends a dog and they team up to face the challenges of living alone in the world, and the horrors that begin to emerge as life as they know it, changes for all time.

In this post-apocalyptic thriller, you find yourself cheering Erika’s wins and gasping as she faces one trial after another. Will Erika find someone to help her, or will she be left alone forever? What if she becomes injured or sick? Why was she saved and so many others died? And, what will it take for her to save herself and bring some semblances of normality back to her world?

You’ll find yourself asking these questions and more as you delve into this fascinating story. You’ll be swept up in this fast-paced, well-crafted tale – I couldn’t put Resilient by Toni Cox down and I doubt that you will too! Do yourself a favor and grab a copy today. You won’t be disappointed. Book review for Resilient by Tony Cox written by Susan Day for Chick lit Café Book Reviews.
